Saturday, September 27th, 2008

The characterization is brilliant and I think this book should come with a statutory warning “Highly addictive, do not read this if you are busy”. I really feel that this warning is very essential because this book is so addictive and you will end up postponing all your works in order that you will finish off with the story. It is filled with surprises and there is a twist in almost all the pages of the book. As you read through the pages, you can feel a sense of belonging to the storyline. This is what makes every reader sit down glued to the book for hours.

Now for those who have not read the book, let me give you a few tips so that you can enjoy the book even more. Firstly, don’t read the outline of the story on the cover page. Just try to observe the paintings of Da Vinci from the Internet and keep it ready so that you can refer anytime. Try to finish off the book in a single stretch. So start reading it when you have ample spare time. And even in case you do not have time, make sure you scrap out some time off your schedule as this book is worth reading.

The most captivating book I have ever read… (Part – I)

The Da Vinci Code is one of the best suspense thrillers one can ever hope to read. Is this book a fiction? Or is it a fact? This is what you will be thinking right from the time you finish the book. I am not an art fanatic, but like everyone in this planet, I have had glance of Da Vinci’s great paintings like Monalisa, The Last Supper, Vitruvian Man. But it was nothing more than a glance. But after the author’s narration of the paintings and the way he has made Da Vinci and his paintings as one of the characters in the book is a masterstroke by the author.

In one of the earlier chapters in the book, the author describes about the numerical constant ‘Phi’. The author refers to it as “Nature’s Number”. He also describes that ratio of joints of all animals is equal to ‘Phi’. I am pretty sure that each and every reader who has read this book would have measured the length of their arms and length of their joint bones and with some simple calculations they would have arrived at ‘Phi’ which equals 1.618. When this kind of thing happens, you know that the author has totally involved all his readers literally into the pages of the book.

Rahul Dravid, one of the finest cricketers the world has ever seen. He was born in the city of Indore in the year 1973. He started playing from the age of 12 and he represented his state in under-15, under-17 and under-19 tournaments. Apart from batting, he also possesses keeping skills. But later he didn’t concentrate on keeping wickets on the advice given to him by the senior players.
He made his test debut against England in 1996 along with his fellow cricketer Sourav Ganguly. He has more than 10,000 runs in both the forms of the game. He is called as “The Wall” by his teammates because of the resistance that he shows while playing. At present he is dropped from the Indian ODI team because of his poor performances but still plays test cricket. He is now the captain of the Bangalore Royal Challengers IPL team. He has many records to his name. Some of them are as follows:
